Touhou 06 – Playing With the Little Sister

Today I cleared my first Extra Stage!!

It’s been a while since I’ve achieved my goal of beating all the main Touhou Window games without using a continue (and on normal). After I beat one game, I move to the other, leaving their respective Extra Stage for some other time. I didn’t actually set a plan for the Extra Stages like I did the main Touhou games so I wasn’t playing to beat Touhou 06 extra but to just to kill time because I was bored of translating stuff. So imagine my surprise when I got to Flandre’s two final cards!

I was shitting bricks!

I never gone past her “Maze of Love” spell card so I was one hundred percent sure I was going to lose once I got past it, and as I was in an adrenaline rush and trying to calm myself down, I realized I was at her last card! I never made it to this, so I didn’t know what to expect. It was looking easy at first, but as I drained her life more and more she shot more and more bullets at me…which I of course, had no choice but to bomb my way out it…two times! ”’orz

But man, I got through it!

I think I could have probably beaten this Extra Stage long ago, but there is one problem with Touhou 06 which makes it pretty hard for me, and it’s something every other Touhou game has…the hit box. Touhou 06 doesn’t show the hitbox when one focuses, so for me, it’s pretty hard trying to get through the nooks and crannies of bullet patterns. I can’t see the box so I’m not sure how far I’m supposed to move. D: (I even managed to get to Ran’s last two cards in less attempts than with Flandre. That box makes a difference! )

I know there’s a mod which adds the hitbox, but for some reason, I felt wrong using it. lol I dunno, I wanted to beat the game as it is and not rely on mods. (Luckily I made an unmodded backup!)

And now I’ve finally done it!! It may have been a sloppy victory, but hell I’ll take it!

[Morino Hon] Omoito Drei – Sample

Oh yes! I’m excited about this next release by Morino Hon! The next installment in the Omoito series, Drei, will be released this upcoming Comiket 80 (mid August).

When I saw the cover I got pretty excited, joining our two automated dolls will be the doll from the Nameless Hill, Medicine Melancholy! Pretty excited in seeing where the story will go from here and what Medicine will bring to the plot. Maybe she will be used as a clue as to why both Hourai and Shanghai gained consciousness.

[Clash House] & [RED-SIGHT] Double Doujinshi Translation

After a huge overnight downpour, Reimu wakes up to see Gensokyo has been submerged underwater. Finding and teaming up with an unlikely partner, Reimu goes out and investigates this incident. Who could be behind it? Is everyone else in Gensokyo safe?

From the artist of Strange and Bright Nature Deity, Oriental Sacred Place, and Touhou 12.8 Sangetsusei – Great Fairy Wars, Hirakasa Makoto brings us a new story and an unlikely pair! I was a bit surprised to see those two paired up, wonder how they would fare in a real game! lol

That would be pretty interesting.

This doujinshi had an interesting premise and I was thinking of translating it, but I got beaten to the punch by Zun’yaman from Voile. lol Since it was already taken I decided to do the editing (cleaning, stitching, etc) since I pretty much didn’t have anything else to do! Actually, there are many others I want to translate but I wanted to take part in this one so opted for editing.

Taking place before and after the events of Touhou 12 Seirensen, Nue thinks about her relationship with Murasa and what she did to her. Will she manage to properly apologize to her?

I translated this doujinshi a really long time ago, and it just now got completed. lol I can see why though, the pages have this yellowish beige tint, and it would take some time to level it and make it white. Someone did pick it up for editing, but after three months of no progress report, it had to put back into the “available” list, where Mae picked it up and finished it. Mae did a great job with this!

This is a great doujinshi and I highly recommend you guys read it.

Touhou 09 Phantasmagoria of Flower View – COMPLETED!

Whut? Why is Extra not unlocked!?

I have finally beaten Touhou 09! With this, it means I have cleared all main Touhou games (non point like 7.5, 9.5, etc etc) with at least one character and without using any continues!

But why did it take this long to clear Touhou 09? I wanted to go in order and clear the games while working my way up to the lastest game…but after giving it three or four tries, I decided to leave it for some other time. I didn’t really like the game, mainly because of the control…or how shot is managed. Because of Touhou 06-08 I got used to holding the shoot button, with Touhou 09 though, if I keep holding it, it charges up a spell attack to unleash unto my opponent. I couldn’t get used to this…more like I didn’t want to get used to it…and I was forced to press the shoot button constantly. Which in turn made my thumb so sore that by the time I got to the last stage (fairy easy game IMO), I made simple dumb mistakes because I couldn’t concentrate. -_-

And there’s also the fact that the computer is a cheating bastard!! Seriously, how the hell can it dodge before a hair’s breath of getting hit!? I swear I saw Shikeiki go through a swarm of bullets with out a scratch!

So I skipped it and tried out the other games.

Just today though, I decided to get it over with once and for all. The problem of sore thumb was still there, so I took it easy and shot carefully. Which in turn turned out to be a nice strategy, I stacked up some combo chains I didn’t know I could do! Which in turn cleared some bullets and sent them off to the opponent! And the opponent gets its revenge by knowing WHEN Lily is going to show up so they use a spell card on me. Bastards.

So after three or so hours (in a span of three days), I finally cleared it without continuing! Felt a bit anti-climatic considering I put it off all this time. I just had to take it easy and ease up on the shoot button. lol (Though there were times I couldn’t help but smash that sucker like there was no tomorrow.)

So now that I beaten all the games with at least one character and without using continues, I guess I’ll try 7.5, 10.5, 12.3, 12.8 and do the same with them. Not a fan of the fighting games though…but maybe that will change the more I play them.

[VIVIT GRAY] [Mori no Hon] [Millet Soup] – Triple Doujinshi Translation

Oh hey, it’s been a while! And I’ve come bearing three doujinshi for you to read.

The first one was actually done and completed a long while ago, but I forgot to make a post about it because I was reading Flyable Heart! If you’re subscribed to Gensokyo.org, you may have already read it, that doujinshi is VIVIT GRAY’s “Hanbuko no Mannaka”. Just like precious VIVIT GRAY works, this doujin features the coupling of Mouko X Keine, this time in a few short stories for you to enjoy.

The second is the sequel to one of my new favorite series from one of my new favorite circles, Mori no Hon’s “Omoito”. Loved the first part (Eins), and the second part (Zwei) was just as good and fun to read. I was so excited by it I chose to do everything by myself, from translation to editing. Of course, I got some help from the great people over at Voile. Thanks guys!

And the third is Millet Soup’s “Sutekina Asa no Hajimari ha!!” which I posted about a while back. The cover had both Alice and Aya, two of my top favorite Touhou characters, so I jumped on it when I saw it, and it didn’t disappoint.

[Su-mi-tan] Sutekina Asa no Hajimari ha!!

Aya, running out of material for her Bunbunmaru Newspaper, is suddenly dragged into an incident. An incident that left her injured and unconscious in front of Alice’s house. What happened to Aya for her to be in that state? Who did that to her? And is that Alice X Aya I see!?

I gotta love Millet Soup for pairing up Alice and Aya, two of my favorite Touhou characters! I don’t think I ever seen them paired up before. They worked together in Ima, Anata no Tonari ni Iru no! but there weren’t any yuri vibes like in this one. Maybe that’s where it all started. lol

For an Aya fan (and Alice fan at that) like me, this was a great doujin to read. I translated it and it’s awaiting editing, I’ll make a post with download link when finished.

[VIVIT GRAY] Hanbunko no Mannaka

This doujinshi features four short stories featuring Keine and Mokou’s relationship.

Seems VIVIT GRAY sure like this pairing as we have another doujinshi featuring them, this is like, the fourth one? Nothing wrong with that, the stories are pretty cute and heartwarming, but I would like to see a doujinshi with a different pairing than Keine x Mokou. Maybe Marisa X Rinnousuke that was slightly shown in “Acoustic Blue Hour“.

Regardless, another nice doujin for those Keine x Mokou fans!

Touhou 13 Shinreibyou ~ Ten Desires Announced!

Zun just announced that coming this Reitaisai, he will release a demo for the new Touhou game 東方神霊廟 ~ Ten Desires. (Touhou Shinreibyou ~ Ten Desires.)

Apparently, the game will be easier than earlier games and the system moderate. The four playable character will be Reimu, Marisa, Sanae and Youmu (as you can see in the pic up there). Not much other info is given but the story seems to center around

“A myriad of spirits suddenly appeared, but those where Divine Spirits. The girl thinking this shouldn’t be left alone goes out to investigate.”

Can’t wait!
